As a seller, completing an Anti-Money Laundering (AML) check is a crucial step in your property transaction process. Solicitors and law firms are legally required to ensure that all their clients undergo this check to comply with AML regulations. This not only protects you and your solicitor but also prevents illegal activities such as money laundering and fraud.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to completing your AML check:
Receive the Check Link
The process begins when your agency or solicitor sends you a link. This link is typically delivered via email or SMS and will take you directly to either the App Store (for iOS users) or the Play Store (for Android users), depending on your device.
Download the Checkboard app
If you haven’t already installed the app required for the AML check, clicking the link will prompt you to download it. Follow the instructions in the app store to install the app on your mobile device.
Set Up Your Account
Once the app is installed, you’ll be asked to:
Enter your mobile number.**
Set a secure six digit PIN that you will use to log into the app for future access.
Access Your Pending Request
After setting up your account:
Tap on the option that says "No, go to my pending checks."
Select the property associated with your sale from the list.
Complete the AML Check
Once you've selected your property, the app will guide you through a series of steps:
Tap "Continue" through each screen, following the instructions until you reach a 'Summary Page'
Input any required information as prompted by the app, such as proof of identity and proof of address
Submit the AML Check
After reviewing the summary page, you can submit the check. This will complete your part of the AML process, allowing your solicitor to move forward with the legal aspects of the property sale.
By completing the AML check, you’re not only ensuring compliance with regulations but also helping to safeguard your transaction against potential fraud or money laundering activities.
Always contact your solicitor if you encounter any issues or need additional clarification during the process.
