Before you start, make sure you have your original, in-date ID ready — not a photo or copy.

What You’ll Need

  • A valid passport or driving licence

  • A well-lit room

  • A neutral surface (like a desk or plain table) to place your ID on

⚠️ Tip: The background might appear in the photo, so avoid patterns or clutter.

Step-by-Step: Completing Your ID Check

Step 1 – Get Ready

Find a bright spot and keep your ID handy.
The app will guide you to scan your document and your face.

Step 2 – Select Your ID Type

  1. Choose your issuing country.

  2. Pick your document type (passport or driving licence).

For countries outside the UK we only accept passports — the app will tell you if that’s the case.

Step 3 – Scan Your ID

  • Fit the entire document inside the frame.

  • Avoid glare, blur, or cropped edges.

  • Make sure details like your photo and MRZ (the barcode lines) are visible.

Step 4 – Scan Your Face

  • Make sure your face is well lit.

  • Keep your whole face inside the frame.

  • Hold still until the scan completes.

Acceptable Documents

  • ✅ Passport (in date)

  • ✅ Driving licence (in date)

🚫 No photocopies, screenshots, or expired IDs.

If You Don’t Have a Valid ID

Checkboard can’t complete your verification without an in-date ID.
Please contact your solicitor or estate agent — they can suggest alternative ways to verify your identity.
